Life Lately // Via Instagram

It's almost December everyone! Where did 2017 go? Well, I for one am glad to move onto 2018. Life lately has been really nice. The sunsets have been pretty epic, I've read two really great books, took a hike at the Noland Trail, put up my Christmas tree and my clothes are fitting much better these days;) All in all....I'm happy. I hope you are too!

My Norfolk // Slover Library

Share It:

I decided to take the week of Thanksgiving off from work because well....I needed a break! I also hadn't taken a 1 week vacation in forever. Even though I had no plans to go out of town, I knew that I wasn't going to spend 9 straight days in the house either. That's worse than working!!! So I got out:)

One of the places I love in Norfolk is Slover Library in the middle of downtown. It's a mix of modern and vintage melded together with old stone, glass and steel. Strategically placed magenta lighting adds a nice touch also....and the Christmas tree in the lobby was lovely.

I spent a few hours there editing some family pictures that I shot over the weekend for a friend...since the internet was wonky at my house that day. It's super quiet (as libraries should be!) and every time I'm there I have the overwhelming urge to be naughty and run up the aisles and be loud:) Must be the inner rebel coming out in me later in life!

What's one of your favorite escape locations in your city??!!

Wanderlust // The Noland Trail

Fall is where it's at for me. I love this season so much. Cooler temperatures (usually;), sweaters and colorful trees. I mean....it's just so pretty! Like someone took a paintbrush full of the amber/red/gold section of the paint store and dripped it all over the place. I'll take it :)

But, it's been very slow to show it's colors here in Coastal Virginia. It's November and still in the 70's - although I hear that's finally coming to an end - so our trees have been hanging on for what seems like forever. This past Saturday I was determined to find some foliage and not have to drive to the western part of the state, so in my quest to take day-trips I decided to visit the Noland Trail, which is a part of The Mariner's Museum in Newport News, VA. It's only about 30 minutes from Norfolk and I've always heard some great things about it!

I will say that just googling "directions to Noland Trail" will give you a very sketchy route that puts you on Bob's Road and probably an axe murderer's backyard:/ Just look up the official site of the trail and punch in the address they give you....trust me....it will make you less stressed!! But, once I got to the correct place I decided to follow the road down to Lion's Bridge at the suggestion of a friend who lives up there. Perfect idea Kerrie! Very few cars and it's a great trail that isn't too twisty or steep for this non-hiker who stopped every 5 minutes to take pictures;)

I hope you enjoy this glimpse of Fall in Virginia as much as I did.... This post is pretty image heavy...there was so much beauty to see. Now let's bring on Winter and some decent snow!!!!

Just kidding....or am I?????? ;)

Wanderlust // OBX

Share It:

Sometimes you wake up on a Sunday morning, have your coffee and casually watch the morning shows....then suddenly have an urge to get in the car and go somewhere! This happened 2 weeks ago and I'm so glad I acted on it. Being a singleton, it's really depressing at times to see everyone pairing up and doing things on the weekends....together. This makes it a little harder (at least for me in the past) to dig deep and decide to venture out alone. But, I came to the realization that just sitting at home isn't going to do you any good and if you want to see something or some place...you need to put on your big girl pants and JUST GO.

So, I went. To the Outer Banks in NC. It's only 1.5 hours from my home and I really should go more often. I left around 11:30am and arrived around 1:30pm...just in time for an ice cream cone and the ocean in all it's blue-green glory. I couldn't have asked for a better day weather-wise, the sun was bright in the sky and the temperature was a balmy 73 degrees. For the end of October, it's kinda crazy. But for a venture to the beach, it's kinda perfect!!

Sunday's at the OBX and Manteo are very quiet. Few tourists are around and a lot of the shops are closed for the day. But it didn't deter me from some good quality time on the beach, soaking in the sun and sparkle off the ocean. I encourage you to reach out past your comfort zone if this is something you've always wanted to do, but didn't. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes :)
